Google Does Not Use Keywords Data in Search
D. Mueller, an employee of Google, provided a thorough explanation of how the company uses the meta tag keywords. He stated that 12 years ago, the former head of Google’s anti-spam division already answered this question. At that time, the company did not use the meta tag keywords in the search results, and since then, the company’s approach in this matter has not changed.
“We still do not use keywords in Google’s page rankings,” said John Mueller.
However, webmasters are still able to use these meta tags at their discretion—there are no problems from the search system because of it.
Meanwhile, the Google search engine uses other meta tags for ranking:
- Title, but with some reservations since it is not technically a meta tag, though it functions as such;
- Robots;
- Description.
These meta tags, according to Mueller, actually have a significant impact on the search results of a page.
Remember, in early 2022, Google began to develop a new parameter for the Robots meta tag—indexifembedded. It is used for indexing the content of a site that is integrated on other pages, even if the sources are not indexed by the search engine.
