Google Will Discontinue Support for the ‘URL Parameters’ Tool in Search Console
Soon, Google will stop supporting the ‘URL Parameters’ tool. The company noted that no action will be required from users in this regard.
Recently, this tool has lost its relevance and value for both Google users and Search Console users. In other words, this tool has become obsolete and it was decided to discontinue it.
It was created 13 years ago in 2009 when Search Console was still called Webmaster Tools. At that stage of system development, working with GET parameters was at its peak popularity; many CMS had serious difficulties with organization, and browsers regularly broke links. With the ‘URL Parameters’ tool, users could control the process of site scanning by specifying the impact values of various parameters on site content.
However, today Google is handling parameter usefulness settings for webmasters excellently. In fact, only 1% of the configurations of the obsolete service parameters remain valuable.
We remind you that D. Müller has repeatedly recommended users to abandon the use of the ‘URL Parameters’ service, as this could lead to serious errors. It’s also important to recall his words where he stated that the search engine often ignores everything that comes after a “?” in the URL structure.
