Outreach (from English. outreach) is a method of business promotion on the Internet, which is very popular in the field of Internet marketing. This method involves placing links or themed advertisements on other websites to promote a particular company or brand.
The goal of the outreach method is to promote a website to improve its organic ranking in search engines and to attract a new audience. Outreach is also used to increase brand recognition for major brands and enhance their digital reputation.
The term originates from the English word “outreach,” which in English means a type of social work with people in need of help. In marketing, this term describes a company’s interaction with new resources where they can communicate with their target audience.

Main Tasks of Outreach

  • to increase the number of backlinks, which in turn enhances the ranking of the site they refer to;
  • placement of links on platforms with a good reputation, as well as trust index for building a quality link mass;
  • outreach helps make websites more visible in search engines and increase their overall traffic;
  • interaction with the target audience to engage a new group of users into the influence area.

Who Uses Outreach

Outreach as a method of promoting various businesses is used by SEO specialists, PR managers, Internet marketers, e-commerce stores, web studios, as well as various media outlets.

Tools for Outreach Activities

  • placing banner and text ads on websites;
  • placing text mentions about the company/brand on websites;
  • placing links on websites that lead to the site being promoted;
  • placing articles and other types of publications on online media sites.

Situations Where Outreach Method is Applied

  • if the promoted site is a platform with broad thematic coverage;
  • if you need to improve the sales of goods or services that are currently in demand in the market;
  • if there is sufficient time reserve to use this promotion method.

Stages of Outreach Specialist’s Work

  • searching for and forming a list of platforms where links/ads/informational articles are planned to be placed;
  • forming ratings of key queries that will subsequently have links placed on them;
  • finding contacts and conducting negotiations on placing materials on selected platforms;
  • placing materials (links/ads/articles) and further control of them.

Outreach ≠ Link Building

The outreach method is very similar to the link building method, which is also intended to promote websites in search engines with the help of placed links.

However, Internet marketing specialists distinguish between the concepts of “outreach” and “link building.” Unlike link building, outreach is the interaction with actual website visitors, engaging the audience of platforms where materials about the company/brand are placed.

Varieties of Outreach Method

Currently, there are two main types of outreach promotion.

  • Free Outreach. Links/ads/articles are placed either for free or on a barter basis. Free outreach is practiced between websites with similar audiences.
  • Paid Outreach. Paid outreach is implemented if the selected platform significantly differs from the promoted website, for example, if their reach is noticeably different as well as the websites’ subject matter. Paid outreach is practiced by online media platforms with high traffic.
